June 24, Halfway, OR to Crambridge, ID

The view in Halfway, OR

From Halfway to Oxbow, OR the road follows the Pine Creek Canyon.  It is mostly downhill and a really pretty ride. I saw a shrike, some quail, and a deer on the side of the road.

From the town of Oxbow there is a short steep hill that brings you up to the level of Oxbow Reservoir.  Oxbow Reservoir is about 12 miles long with one shore in Oregon and the other in Idaho.  There were only a few boats on the water, but that will change after June 30th when the bass season opens.

The road follows the Oregon shore to the end of the reservoir, then crosses over the Snake River into Idaho near the Brownlee Dam.

I met Dean at the Idaho state Line.  He is also doing a transcontinental tour which started on June 7th in North Bend, OR.  We rode together off and on the rest of the day.  The road follows the shore of Brownlee Reservoir for a bit before turning up hill along Brownlee creek.  This was a long hot climb.  Vicki met us about half way up the hill and we all had lunch together.  Dean and I left to continue up the hill.  Vicki passed us after a while and continued on to Cambridge, ID where we are spending the night.  From the summit it was about 17 miles to Cambridge, almost all downhill.
